Facing the risks of having many musical forms of ethnic minority (EM) approach the dying-out state, the preservation of the EM compatriots’ musical sources has been being implemented by the levels and sectors.
In the cheerful and effervescent atmosphere of the ceremony of receiving the certificate of provincial level scenic landscape of H’Ly waterfall, the gongs sounds by EC in Song Hinh commune (Song Hinh district) really attract us. With the sounds bearing the unique traits of the mountains, listeners seem to be absorbed in the localmen’s daily lives.
Being the person with many years’ experience in the traditional musical instruments at the traditional events of praying for rain, water port, tomb praying,… mr. Ksiu Thang in Ha Roi hamlet, Song Hinh commune, shared, “apart from taking part in performances of traditional festivals, I do also want to attend these occasions to introduce to more people the particular features of my nation and contributing to preserving, developing the EC compatriots’ music in Song Hinh in particular and the cultural identities of the EC in general…”.
According to Mr Nguyen Nhu Dong, Head of Song Hinh district’s Division of culture-sports, in the past time, levels, sectors and people of various EC compatriots have shown positive shifts in awareness, sense of responsibilities in the task of preserving, developing the elite traditional and cultural values of EC in the locality, including the EC from the northwest that come to reside here. Through which to contribute to educating the young generations to learn about the sources and particular cultural identities of their nation. “in concrete, Song Hinh disrtict organizes the periodical event of the cultural-sports-tourism festival for EC compatriots; collecting the musical instruments, epic… of the EC compatriots; equipping 17/36 hamlets with ec compatriots the arap gongs, double drums, triple and five-fold gongs; establishing the clubs of “then” singing” of Tay compatriots, the folk club of E De compatriots”, Mr. Dong let known.
Not only in Song Hinh district, the localities with lots of EC compatriots residing like Son Hoa and Dong Xuan also organize the activities of preserving and protecting the EC compatriots’ traditional music treasure with such events as the gong festival in Krong Pa commune, Ca Lui commune (Son Hoa district); the double drum festival, triple and five-fold gong festival in Xuan Lanh Commune (Dong Xuan district)…
The province currently has two national level intangible cultural heritages by the EC compatriots, including : the performing art of double drums, triple and five-fold gongs, the ritual of maturing by E De Phu Yen compatriots; There are 13 folk clubs and traditional music clubs in hamlets and villages, mainly in Song Hinh district. The cultural sector and other localities have collected 31 sets of arap gongs comprising 590 items; triple and five-fild gongs with 64 sets, 344 items, double drums with 3 sets and 18 items. The organizing of artistic activities to serve the EC compatriots are frequently cared. The province also maintains to organize Phu Yen provincial festival of culture-sports-tourism every three years. Besides, the EC compatriots use their own languages to transfer their songs’ contents (Aray singing) in the public musical contests and the culture-sports day for all EC compatriots.
According to Mr Bui Van Thanh, Vice director of the Department of Culture-Sports-Tourism, “In order to preserve and develop the traditional culture and serve the community’s activities for the province’s EC compatriots, the province has attached significant attention to investing and constructing the venues for cultural activities, the sports and entertaining zones, especially the communal houses for culture, creating locations to exchange folk songs, dances, music…However, in the strategy of preserving the EC compatriots’ cultural identity in the province, there is music and this really requires the proceeding policies and methods so that the EC compatriots’ values are tangible in the community’s life with time”, Mr Thanh said.
Mr Thanh added that so as to preserve and develop the values of folks, public dances, music of EC in the period of 2021-2030, the localities need to continue enhancing the leadership by Party levels, governments at all levels, enhancing the propagation, people’s awareness of preserving, developing the national cultural values, constructing and developing the culture and people of Vietnam to meet the demand of the nation’s sustainable development as to the spirit in the resolution of central 9 Party (term XI)…
