Luong Van Chanh grave and temple

Celebrities Luong Van Chanh was born in Bac Ha, under King Le The Tong dynasty, he was assigned to hold the position of Thien Vu Ve Do Chi Huy Su (Chief Commander). In 1578, Luong Van Chanh was assigned by Lord Nguyen Hoang to stabilize the land from Cu Mong pass to Ca pass. Thanks to his credits, he was awarded with the title of Phu Quoc Thuong Tuong Quan (Senior Lieutenant General of the Country) and then Tran Bien Quan (the mandarin in charge of guarding the frontiers). Then he gathered the people in Thanh-Nghe, Thuan Hoa and other places to reclaim the land and establish the villages in Cu Mong, Ba Dai and areas along Da Rang river. He applied experience in land reclamation in Phu Yen and worked with the people to make this land become a rich land and new villages were formed. This was the basis for the Lord Nguyen to establish Phu Yen capital city in 1611.

Mr. Luong Van Chanh passed away on September 19th 1611. The grave of Luong Van Chanh is located in a high hill and faces to Ben Loi river and Chop Chai mountain. Luong Van Chanh temple is located in an airy place with Ben Loi river in the front and Cam mountain behind. There is also an ancient Bodhi Tree to provide shade to the a corner of the temple and this tree was recognized by Vietnamese Association for the Nature and Environment Protection as a Vietnam’s Heritage Tree in 2014.

In order to express the admiration, appreciation of today generation to the ancestors who had the credits in reclamation and establishment of this land; as well as to present for the tradition of “when drinking water, remember its source” and to meet the expectations of the public servants and people in the province and the country, Phu Yen Province had ordered to cast the statue of Great Man Luong Van Chanh to worship right at his Temple. The statue was casted with copper with the height of 1.4 meters in the sitting status on a chair and holding a royal decree in his hands and placed at the main chamber of the temple to express the respect and solemnity.

To commemorate the person with considerable credits to Phu Yen land, on 6/2 and 19/9 of lunar year, Phu Yen holds the Festival at Luong Van Chanh temple with the participation of many people and visitors. Luong Van Chanh Grave and Temple was recognized Relic is a National relic on 27/9/1996.
